A short drive off the highway and into the desert about halfway between Los Angeles and Vegas, there's an abandoned town called ZZYZX. The man who originally bought the land there told the government he would be mining the huge territory for minerals. Instead, he opened a lavish resort around the natural hot springs that attracted guests from across the globe. But such an endeavor is destined to be ephemeral—the government found out and reclaimed the land.
But ZZYZX still stands.
